Gemstones for Every Mood

Gemstones Jewelry Style Tips

Purple Baroque Pearl and Amethyst Point Necklace

One of the reasons we love jewelry so much is how it can make us feel when we wear it. There are so many beautiful natural crystals and stones available and they all evoke different moods. Some people believe that stones give off an energy and can affect us in unseen ways. Perhaps this is one of the reasons we can be so moved by certain pieces.

Farra always incorporates several different stone stories into each collection. We've selected a few of our favorites below.

Lapis Lazuli is an ancient stone that was venerated by the Egyptians. It was a sign of royalty and wisdom. They also ground it up and used it for make up and as a medicine. It has a history and mystery to it. And it reminds us of the deep blue of the nighttime sky. This royal blue color is also on trend for spring/summer. Afghanistan is the main source for this beautiful stone.

Turquoise is a stone worn by native peoples from around the world. For them it can have spiritual significance and is often worn as a sign of wisdom. The color is that of the clearest blue sky, perhaps that is why it was thought to give one 'clear vision'.  Turquoise is found in different places in the world. Most famous is the Turquoise that comes from the American Southwest, for it is often the brightest in color and most complex in natural veining.

Amethyst is a crystal associated with Royalty due to its rich purple color. It is said to be a stone of magic and can enhance your intuition. It is also considered to be a protective stone and can draw positive experiences to you. It protects against bad dreams and can help with getting a more restful sleep. The main source for Amethyst in the world is Brazil, but it can be found in many other countries too.

Malachite is a rich deep green stone with a rich mythology to match. Known as a stone of personal power and protection, ancient merchants carried and wore the stone to protect their businesses.  If kept with money, malachite was believed to increase wealth. Traders also wore the stone during business transactions to attract profitable deals.  In some parts of Italy, people wore malachite pieces resembling eyes to ward away the Evil Eye. It has been sourced from Russia and the Congo, as well as Mexico.
