On March 27th, the 94th Academy Awards (popularly known as the Oscars) will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. With presenters Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes, the night is sure to be filled with laughter and praise for those in the film industry. Aside from celebrating the nominees' accomplishments, awards shows like the Oscars, Golden Globes, and other red carpet events are all about celeb FASHION.
We're looking forward to watching our favorite celebrities taking home an award, but we're equally excited for all the Oscars looks and couture that will be trending on our IG feed by that night. Every year, we patiently await for the best-dressed stars to make a glowing appearance. Some of them wear new designers while others go for tried-and-tried classics like Valentino, Prada, and Cartier.
For every dress, pantsuit, or another formal evening attire, there are jewelry, bags, shoes, gloves, and headpieces pulling the look together. These fashion accessories might not be the main stars like their clothing counterparts, but they deserve all the love the same way a best supporting actress should.
Ahead, read about our favorite celebrity leather accessories and clothing at the Oscars and other red carpets, through the years.
This simple leather chain necklace with a clear crystal pendant was worn by Questlove at the Oscars red carpet in 2021. Paired with a subtle black button-down shirt, his necklace became a statement piece that amplified his Oscars look.
In an unforgettable fashion moment from the 2018 Oscars, Adam Rippon wore a Moschino black tux with cutout shoulders and a leather harness around his chest. Marie Claire called it an S&M Fifty Shades of Grey look and we couldn't agree more. To top off the look, the American figure skater wore a black leather bowtie. Would we wear this look to our grandma's house? No. Would we wear it to a party with friends? Most definitely! We love the way Rippon incorporated leather into his red carpet appearance; his stylist should be so proud!
Kanye West looks like he stepped out of a GQ magazine with this leather suit worn at the Oscars' Vanity Fair after-party in 2020. The rapper, as usual, looked effortless as he walked the red carpet in a single-breasted suit jacket. He paired the low-cut jacket with a chunky chain necklace, black sunglasses, and lots of ring bling. What appears to be beige leather or suede booties completed the look.
In 2020, Olivia Munn understood the assignment during awards season when she wore a black gown to the Oscars with leather buckle details. Leather, in general, is a casual material for a black-tie occasion, but the 42-year-old actress wore it like couture.
As one of this year's biggest stars, thanks to her role as Rue in Euphoria season 2 and Chani in Dune, Zendaya always wears something showstopping on the red carpet. At the Venice Film Festival in 2021, the Euphoria star wore an edgy Balmain leather dress with a zip-up corset and lace-up sides. Paired with Christian Louboutin pumps and black pants, Zendaya looked like she was ready to take on the world in style.
As we dip our feet into 2022, leather has been a versatile material making a steady appearance on the red carpet and off. Independent designers and fast-fashion retailers have taken this trend to the next level, whether consumers are looking for an everyday outfit (hello leather pants!) or special occasion attire (hello leather heels!).
At Id Pearl, we're big on leather accessories. Here are a few of our favorites that we think would look perfect on celebs at the Oscars and every day.
Bergè leather bags and belts are 100% sourced and made in Italy by local craftsmen. Their leather belt with a gold chain will turn any average pair of jeans or little black dress into an elevated and edgy outfit. Plus, you can always clip off the chain if you're looking for something a little more simple. Think of this piece as two belts in one. We can definitely see celebs wearing this black leather belt cinched on their waist with an oversized sweater and leggings.
Dance the night away with Bergè's croc printed leather bag. It holds just the right amount of personal items without taking up much space. Choose between black and green — either way, you can't go wrong!
Shiny silver studs and eyelets cover this black leather belt that will look dazzling with jeans or an evening dress. Whether you dress up or dress it down, you've got a look that looks like it's studded with Swarovski crystals, without the hefty price tag.
