All of their consciously crafted designs, include unique twist, color and stitch combinations, and have been developed by founder Cara Melzack. Cara & The Sky handmade knits are all produced in the UK.

The small-scale production allows for them to work closely with suppliers while ensuring a slower approach to fashion. Since launching in 2019, their handmade knitwear line is stocked in over 75 boutiques across the UK, Ireland, Canada and the U.S.

About Sustainability
Cara & The Sky are also making a conscious effort to be aware of its fashion footprint. This is a work-in progress.

They choose this specifically to support the UK made fashion industry, and it also helps reduce the carbon footprint of the garments with local customers.
Recycled Packaging
The packaging is simple, but this is done on purpose to minimize waste.
Mail bags are made from sugarcane and are 100% recyclable, carbon neutral and made from a sustainable source.
They use two types of eco-friendly poly bags that the garments are packaged in:
*EPI degradable plastic which is are 100% recyclable & biodegradable.
*90% recycled plastic and are 100% recyclable.
The branded tape is made from kraft paper and is 100% recyclable.
Sustainable Materials & Labeling
Cara & The Sky handmade knits do not use any animal-derived materials or ingredients in their collections.
*All the yarns are Acrylic/Polyamide.
*Neck labels are made from 100% recycled polyester.
*Swing tickets are made from 100% recycled cards and label cords are made from 100% organic raw cotton.
*Care labels are made from 100% recycled poly silk.
4 Reasons Slow Fashion is Important
*It reduces waste. The explosion of fast fashion has increased the amount of clothing waste that is generated per year. 10,000 items of clothing are sent to a landfill every 5 mins. Slow fashion is made consciously in small batches which means less waste created over time. Purchasing one slow fashion item instead of 4 fast fashion items means the consumer is also reducing waste.
*It saves resources like water and lowers your carbon footprint. It takes around 1,800 gallons of water to grow cotton to make one single pair of jeans and 2,720 liters of water to make a single cotton t-shirt – that’s the amount of water a person normally consumes in three years. Supporting brands that are actively reducing the use of resources and carbon emissions means we slow the depletion of these precious resources on our planet long term.
*It promotes fair and healthy working conditions. Small independent brands that produce locally or support struggling communities are ensuring that workers get paid a fair wage and that working conditions are run in a healthy and ethical way. Fast fashion brands typically use factories that pay lower wages and may result in slave labor practices. Their decisions are often directly linked to profit so choosing more sustainable materials and processes is not their top priority.
*It allows you to support brands with a purpose. Brands that put ethics above profits and are actively giving back to communities or charities means that you can feel good knowing that you are supporting more than a business' bottom line.
Conscious Consumerism
By raising your awareness and understanding of how the fashion industry works, you can make better purchasing decisions. By choosing higher quality slow fashion made by independent designers, you can curate your wardrobe with pieces that will maintain their integrity and value for a longer period of time. The need to purchase more items that are worn for a shorter time becomes less important and thus you are practicing conscious consumerism.
